An Fe3+-rich variety of chamosite, first reported from Reichmannsdorf, Thuringian Forest, Thuringia, Germany.
Poorly constrained: Deer, Howie and Zussman (1962) list several analyses for thuringite. One, a brown specimen, has Fe3+ > Fe2+ but most are the opposite, also most are Mg-rich, some with Mg>Fe . Most other Fe-bearing chlorites are also Fe3+-rich, so the terminology seems a bit random and the term is best avoided.
