Named after the twon of Sabie, South Africa, closest to the discovery locality.
Dimorph of:
Isostructural with:
The ferric Fe analogue of godovikovite. Chemically related to pyracmonite and ferroefremovite. Slightly hydroscopic.

The following different polytypes are known: 1T, 2H and 3R (Kampf et al., 2014).
