Name:
Named in honour of Giuseppe "Pep" Rossi (1938, Brixen/Bressanone, South Tyrol, Italy - 17 January 1989), Italian mineralogist and crystallographer, University of Pavia, Pavia, Italy. The suffix follows the Levinson rule for minerals with essential REE, denoting predominant cerium.
The first anhydrous rare-earth-element borate. Formed in cavities in sanidine ejecta by circulation of pneumatolytic to hydrothermal fluids, probably above 350 °C.
Peprossiite-(Ce) was first found by Italian mineral collector Giorgio Penco in 1986.
