Name:
Named in honor of Aleksandr Semenovich Podlesnyi (Александр Семенович Подлесный) (28 November 1948, Zabolottsi, Ivanichesky district, Volyn region, Ukraine, USSR – 13 October 2010), Russian amateur mineralogist and collector in recognition of his significant contributions to the mineralogy of the Khibiny massif. He worked in the Kirovskii underground mine, assembling the best systematic collection of Kirovskii mine minerals. He collected and provided for study the specimens which became the holotype specimens of eleven new species and the cotype specimens of four additional new species. Pronounced "pod-lez'-no-ite".

Perfect prismatic crystals up to 1x1x4 mm typically combined in groups, and radial fibrous spherulites up to 8 mm in diameter.
