Name:
Originally named simply chukhrovite in 1960 by L. P. Ermilova, V. A. Moleva, and R. F. Klevtsova in honor of Fedor Vasil’evich Chukhrov (1908-1988). He published much research on the oxidation zone of the type locality. The suffix/modifier was added in 1987, according to the Levinson rule for species with essential REE, to indicate in this case, the predominance of yttrium and to distinguish it from chukhrovite-(Ce).

Thermal Behaviour:
The D.T.A. curve shows a sharp endothermal break at 280° (loss of water of crystallization), a smaller one at 780°, and an exothermal break at 480°.

Before the blowpipe, it swells and fuses easily to a creamy white enamel.
Notes:
Readily dissolves in dilute HCl or H2SO4.
