Occurs as alteration product of a primary phosphate, probably triphylite, in massive quartz. Only small amounts are present, as the specimens so far found are in an advanced state of weathering. XRD of the oxides that make up the bulk of the weathered material showed that they are basically amorphous.
Quality for species:
Poor for species, only of interest for locality collectors. (#)
