A Cr occurrence located in secs. 15 (assumed spot at center of the NW¼SW¼ sec. 15) & in the center NW¼ of sec. 22, T20N, R8E, MDM, 0.5 km (1,600 feet) NNE of North Star and 4.0 km (2.5 miles) NE of Strawberry Valley, on National Forest land (located about 20 yards W of the county road between Strawberry Valley and La Porte. The deposit in sec. 22 is located in the center of that sec. near a timber road about 3/8 of a mile SE of the county road). Owned by Soper-Wheeler Timber Co. (1943). Operated by E. C. Magruder, Strawberry Valley, California (1943). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in Late Cretaceous serpentinite. The ore body is irregular in shape. Local rocks include Ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings. The sec. 15 deposit workings consisted of a small open cut. The sec. 22 deposit workings consisted of several shallow pits scattered over an area about 300 feet long and 100 feet wide.
Ore was mined but not shipped from these prospects.
Analytical data results: Ore averaged 28-30% Cr2O3.
