A former lode Au mine located in sec. 27, T3N, R15E, MDM, 2.7 km (9,000 feet) ENE of Italian Bar (on Grant Ridge, about 6 miles E of Columbia), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is not stated.
NOTE: There are 2 MRDS files pertaining to this locality. File #10109467 presents geographic coordinates which place this locality in the position described in the file (on Grant Ridge), as well as placing it between the 2 shaft symbols specifically labeled as the Grant Mine on the topo map. File #10165598 presents geographic coordinates of -120.189900, 38.086010, which are in error. The coordinates from file #10109467 are presented here.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with a vein averaging 12 inches (30 cm), hosted in mica schist. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range) (the latter is probably incorrect based on incorrect geoographic coordinates in the MRDS file from which extracted).
Workings include underground opening comprised of 96 foot deep shaft and a 1,000 foot crosscut adit.
