A former lode Au mine located in sec. 17, T1S, R15E, MDM, 4.3 km (2.7 miles) SSE of Hog Mountain (coordinates of record), along the Tuolumne River (Don Pedro Reservoir). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
NOTE: MRDS files present geographic coordinates which place this locality along the Tuolumne River channel (now inundated beneath the Tuolumne River arm of the San Pedro Reservoir; however, MRDS file #10034632 states that it is along Kanaka Creek, which lies a substantial distance to the W of the river channel.
Mineralization is hosted in slate and serpentinite. The ore body strikes SW and dips E at a thickness of 45.72 meters. The hanging wall is slate and the footwall is serpentinite. The ore is low-grade in a large ore body. The ore carries 2½ to 5% sulfides, valued at $20 to $50 per ton in 1892. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of an adit and an open cut.
The last report for this mine was in 1896.
