A former Cr mine located in the NE¼NE¼ sec. 22, T1N, R13E, MDM, 1.9 km (6,300 feet) E of the dam and 4.0 km (2.5 miles) NW of Peoria Flat, on private land. Discovered in 1915 by William Laughlin. Ownerd by William Laughlin. Operated by P. Mertz, S. Rosenthal, & H. Kiaupat (WW I). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. The mine is approximately 100 feet above the Stanislaus River.
Mineralization is a Cr deposit hosted in Late Jurassic serpentinite. The ore body is lenticular. The deposit consists of 1 large, and several small lenses. The river geology of this deposit is more closely related to deposits lying across the river in Calaveras County than to those of Peoria Flat proper. The deposit occurs in the northern part of the westernmost of 2 serpentine belts which trend NW-SE across the county. The belt is exposed over an area 30 km by 6 km. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Local structures include significant shearing of the host rock.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 60 foot long open cut and a tunnel 40 feet long.
