A former lode Au mine located in secs. 21 & 22, T1N, R16E, MDM, 2.2 km (7,200 feet) NW of Buchanan (about 2½ miles SE of Carter, between Big Canyon and the North Fork Tuolumne River; along Spring Gulch, a tributary of Hunter Creek), on private land within a National Forest area. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in slate-schist-quartzite rocks. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
150 ounce nugget found in the 1850's.
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 400 foot deep shaft, now caved.
