A former Cr mine located in sec. 25, T1N, R13E, MDM, 0.8 km (2,600 feet) WNW of Peoria Flat (coordinates of record), along Peoria Creek (about 100 feet E of a fork in the creek), on private land. Owned by J. Zielke (1948). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in rocks of the Seiad Valley Complex (Late Jurassic dunite). The ore body is lenticular, strikes N70E, dips 70SW at a width of 1.22 meters, and a length of 33.53 meters. Local alteration involved serpentinization of the host rock. The deposit occurs in the northern part of the westernmost of 2 serpentine belts which trend NW-SE across the county. The belt is exposed over an area 30 km by 6 km. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of an open cut 120 feet by 10 feet by 5 feet, and a 20 foot tunnel at the E end of the cut.
Analytical data results: Ore contains approximately 65% Cr2O3.
