A former Cr mine located in sec. 36, T1N, R13E, MDM, 0.2 km (800 feet) SE of Peoria Flat (coordinates of record) and about 4 miles NW of Chinese Camp (on flat valley floor a short distance N of Table Mountain), on private land. Owned by Rosasco. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is hosted in Late Jurassic dunite. The ore body is lenticular, strikes NW and dips 90 at a width of 1.52 meters and a length of 12.19 meters. Local alteration involved the serpentinization of the host rock. The deposit occurs in the northern part of the westernmost of 2 serpentine belts which trend NW-SE across the county. The belt is exposed over an area 30 km by 6 km. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a flooded shaft and an open cut approximately 30 feet long, 6 feet deep and 5 to 6 feet wide.
Production data are found in: Cater, F.W., Jr. (1948a).
Analytical data results: 23.6% Cr2O3 - U.S. Bureau of Mines (1918).
A few hundred tons of milling ore remain on the lease.
