A former Au-Mn mine located in sec. 1, T2N, R14E, MDM. 2.0 km (6,600 feet) WNW of Blewetts Point, along Experimental Gulch (About 2 miles NNE of Columbia and 6 miles N of Sonora). Discovered in 1942. Owned by Frank Schoettgen, California (1974). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is a superficial, residual type Mn deposit. The ore body is 0.61 meter thick. Suopeficial deposit of Mn oxide, mixed with some Fe oxide and clay, in gray limestone, which is part of a belt belonging to the Calaveras series. The or zone is 2 feet thick, and is overlain by about 8 feet of reddish regolithic soil containing quartz fragments. The zone is exposed for 30 feet, and shows a rough banding or bedding roughly parallel with the surface slope, about 20E.
Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
