A former Cr mine located in the SE¼ sec. 6, T1N, R14E, MDM, about 3 miles WNW of Jamestown, S of French Flat (on N-facing slope of a low hill situated approximately 650 meters S of the junction of French Flat and Williamson Roads), on private land (fee ownership). Operated during the period 1908 to 1918. Owned by Karl H. Pann (100.00%), Sonora, California (1976). Operated by W. A. Fitzgerald, California - last operator (1918). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in Late Cretaceous-Late Jurassic dunite of the Amador Formation. The ore body is lenticular, strikes N40W and dips 80SW (largest irregular lens). The primary mode of origin was magmatic differentiation. The primary ore control was lithology and the secondary mode was igneous activity. Local wallrock alteration is intense (carbonitization). The deposit occurs in the northern part of the easternmost of 2 serpentine belts that trend NW-SE across the county. The belt is exposed over an area of 3 km by 1.5 km. Local alteration includes serpentinization of the host rock. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings consisting of 1 large pit and several smaller cuts and prospects (1975).

Total production was 1,427 metric tons of ore averaging 35%. The average mineable grade of ore (chromite) is 38.0%. Mine idle since WWI.
Analytical data results: 36.3% Cr2O3; 9.6% Fe; 39.8% Al2O3; Cr:Fe ratio 2.63:1 (U.S. Bureau of Mines alanalysis).
