A Au prospect/mine located in sec. 26, T3N, R15E, MDM, 2.9 km (9,500 feet) NNW of Cedar Ridge, near the top of the N wall of the Stanislaus River Canyon. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Fairly unintelligible MRDS file note: CJM&G SHOWS # GRANT GROUP MINE IN W1/2 NE1/4 SEC 26 BUT USGS QUAD COL SE 1 SHOWS GRANT MINE IN SEC 27 AND LUCKY STRIKE MINE IN SEC 26 A ADIT IN SE1/4 NE1/4 SEC26 WHICH BE A WORKING OF LUCKY STROKE.
Best translation effort: CJM&G shows # Grant group Mine in W½NE¼ sec. 26, but USGS quadrangle Col_____, SE 1, shows Grant Mine in sec. 27 and Lucky Strike Mine in sec. 26. An adit in the SE¼NE¼ sec. 26 which may be a working of Lucky Strike.
The coordinates provided in the referenced MRDS file place this locality very close to an adit symbol specifically identified as the "Lucky Strike Mine" on the topo map. Coordinates presented here are corrected to correspond exactly to the adit symbol. The "Grant Mine" is clearly shown in sec. 27.
Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
