A Cr occurrence/claim located in sec. 25 & in the NE¼ & SE¼ sec. 36, T1S, R14E, MDM, 4.5 km (2.8 miles) WNW of Moccasin Peak (coordinates of record) (near the head of Reservoir Gulch). Discovered in 1917 by George Adams and C.F. Lighthold. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is hosted in Late Jurassic dunite. The ore body is podiform. There is extensive shearing in and around the ore bodies. The deposit occurs in the northern part of the western part of 2 serpentine belts which trend NW-SE across the county. The belt is exposed over an area 30 km by 6 km. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface openings comprised of 6 or 7 small pits and open cuts. Most of the ore was removed from 3 open cuts 100 feet W of the bottom of the gulch (now inundated beneath Don Pedro Reservoir).
Production information: Approximately 40 tons of ore were mined in 1917-1918 and remain stockpiled on the claim (1948).
