A former Cr mine located in the SW¼ (?) sec. 17 & in sec. 20, T19S, R27E, MDM, 2.5 km (1.6 miles) NNE of Tonyville and 3.0 km (1.9 miles) NNW of Lindsay Peak (coordinates of record). Discovered and worked in 1916. Owned by the Gill Cattle Co., California (1975). Operated by Frederick Gill. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a Cr deposit hosted in Late Jurassic serpentinite. The ore body is lenticular in form. Both deposits consist of a series of narrow lenses of ore striking NE. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided and/or ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
The deposit is located in a NW-trending, irregularly exposed belt of highly sheared serpentine which is 5 to 6 km wide and approximately 40 km long. The belt is bordered by pre-Cretaceous metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks, Pleistocene alluvium and Mesozoic granodiorite intrusives.
