A former Cr occurrence/prospect/mine located in sec. 10, T2N, R7E, HM, (assumed spot at center of SE¼ sec. 10), 7.2 km (4.5 miles) NNW of Friend Mountain (coordinates of record), along Oak Ridge, N of Indian Valley Creek and S of Butter Creek, on National Forest land (fee ownership). Owned by C. M. Shock. Operated by T. G. Knowles. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a Cr deposit hosted in serpentinite. The ore body is podiform, strikes N30W and dips 20S. The deposit occurs in one of several dike-like peridotite bodies that are NW-trending across central to SW Trinity County. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface openings comprised of a bulldozer cut 150 feet long and 100 feet wide.
Production data are found in: Wells, F.G. and Hawkes, H.E. (1965): 181.
Analytical data results: 49.74% Cr2O3; 12.76% Fe. Cr to Fe ratio: 2.76:1.
