A Mn occurrence/claims located in the NE¼ sec. 31, T3S, R6E, HM, 2.5 km (8,400 feet) N of Neafus Peak (coordinates of record), on the lower eastern slope of Wool Mountain (Humboldt County), near the county line. Operated by Ray F. Helmke, California (1974). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is a pair of Mn occurrences. The ore body (which ?) is
0.91 meters thick, 1.83 meters wide and 18.29 meters long. claim No. 1 is an ore body 6 feet wide and 60 feet long in thin-bedded red chert. Strike is N60W and the dip is 80 to 90S. Stockwork ore is similar to that of the Ladd Mine, with estimated grade of 20% Mn. The No. 2 claim ore bed, 3 feet thick and 3 feet deep, and at least 12 feet long, lies in thin-bedded red chert which strikes N40E. Folding, faulting and slumping complicate the structure. Ore grade is estimated at 35% Mn. Local rocks include rocks of the Franciscan Complex, unit 1 (Coast Ranges).
