A former lode Au mine located 3.5 km (2.2 miles) NE of Stoveleg Gap (coordinates of record), along the East Branch East Fork North Fork Trinity River (1.8 miles NE of the Backbone Ridge lookout), on Bureau of Land Management wilderness land (Trinity Alps Wilderness). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
NOTE: The MRDS database lists the Bell Mine as an alternate name for this location; however, the database also provides a file (#10190165) with a separate MAS/MILS ID number as the primary file for the Bell, listing it in an adjoining T&R section.
Mineralization is hosted in slate. The ore body strikes E-W and dips 40S. Deposit comprised of quartz veins. Local rocks include schist of various types and ages, unit 7 (Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 45.72 meters,
comprised of a 490 foot adit and several hundred feet of drifts and stopes.
Production data are found in: Brown (1913).
No specific production record was found. The ore was free-milling and of good grade. The mine is said to have produced $200,000 in Au (period values).
