A Mn-Fe occurrence/group of claims located in the SW¼ sec. 30, T1N, R8E, HM, 1.9 km (6,100 feet) NE of Copper Hill, in the headwaters area of North Rattlesnake Creek, on National Forest land. Owned by Sarah Hoelling (Black Susan claim), California (1974); and Jules A. Hoelling (Arrowhead claim), California (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. These claims trend NW and the Arrowhead adjoins the Black Susan on the NW.
Mineralization is hosted in chert. The ore body is 3.05 meters wide and 6.1 meters long. The ore lies in thin-bedded purple chert, which is bounded on the S and E by greenstone. Chert is stainedm with thin films of Mn, and in a few places contains local segregations of manganiferous iron ore, up, to 10 feet wide and 20 feet long. Most of the ore is on the Arrowhead claim. Serpentine and greenstone occupy most of the Black Susan claim. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 9 (Western Klamath Mountains).
Analytical data results: Ore grade is about 15% Mn, 15% Fe.
