A former lode Au-Cu mine located in the NW¼ sec. 14 & sec. 15, T35N, R11W, MDM, 5.3 km (3.3 miles) ENE of Stoveleg Gap (coordinates of record), along ellow Jacket Creek, on Bureau of Land Management wilderness land (Trinity Alps Wilderness). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in slate. The ore body is a ribbon structure which
strikes N80E and dips 60S or SE. It fills a shear zone. Primary ore control was fracturing. Local rocks include schist of various types and ages, unit 7 (Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 560 foot adit and 1,500 feet of drifts with 1 stope (100 feet x 4 feet x 80 feet), a winze, and an old 13 foot arrastra.
Production data are found in: Brown (1913).
production information: The ore was free-milling and rich. Said to have produced $600,000 in Au (period values) by 1916, but nothing since. No sopecific production record found. The vein system is not economically minable but has produced good specimen gold.
