A former group of Cr mines (two mines with unknown names) located in secs. 21, 22 & 27, T25N, R7W, MDM, 2.1 km (6,900 feet) N of Brush Mountain (coordinates of record), along the Middle Fork Elder Creek. Owned by W. E. Kleinsorge, Sacramento, California (1965). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a group of Cr deposits hosted in rocks of the Coast Range Ophiolite (serpentinite). The ore body is podiform. The group is located near the N end of the Elder Creek mass, a long fault bounded N-S-trending ultramafic body that is exposed over an area approximately 120 km by 4 km. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 3 (Coast Ranges and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface openings. Operations in sec. 22 include five open pits and a mill. Other openings/operations unspecified.
Production data are found in: Wells, F.G. and Hawkes, H.E. (1965): 160.
The analyses of chromite shipped to the GSA stockpile, Grants Pass, Oregon during the period 1952-1957 provided results: 42.3 - 47.4% Cr2O3; Cr to Fe ratio: 2.6-2.7:1; 10.8% - 12.6% Fe.
