A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 8 & in the NE¼ sec. 9, T20N, R12E, MDM, 3.3 km (2.0 miles) W of Bassetts and 5.5 km (3.4 miles) N of Sierra City, along the W shore/canyon wall of Lower Sardine Lake, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 273; USGS model code: 36a; Deposit model name: Low-sulfide Au-quartz vein; Mark3 model number: 27) hosted in metavolcanic rock. The ore body is 3.66 meters thick. The quartz vein is 6 to 12 feet thick. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 5 (Northern Sierra Nevada and Eastern Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of an adit.
Production data are found in: McCulloch, et al (1964).
No other production record was found.
Yield was 0.97 to 1.5 ounce Au/ton prior to 1897.
