A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 34, T20N, R12E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 mile) ESE of Sierra City, S of Haypress Creek, on National Forest land. The agent was W.H. Williams, Sierra City, California. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Long inactive mine.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with ore shoot hosted in slate and porphyry. The ore body strikes E and dips 75N. The vein is 8 feet thick with a slate hanging wall and footwall of porphyry and with an ore shoot 120 feet wide and 8 feet thick. The second vein is 3 feet thick. The ore is free-milling quartz ore. Local rocks include Paleozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (Northeastern Sierra Nevada).
Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 233.17 meters and comprised of 3 adits. No. 1 adit is 90 feet on the ore shoot with stopes on the small vein. The second adit is 250 feet as a crosscut and 170 additional feet as a drift, 175 feet beneath adit No. 1, on the 120 foot wide ore shoot, and with a raise to adit No. 1. The No. 3 adit is at least 490 feet, 500 feet beneath adit No. 2.. Only assessment work was done in 1916.
