A former lode & placer Au occurrence/mine located in the NW¼ sec. 9, T20N, R10E, MDM, 1.0 km (0.6 mile) W of Fir Cap (summit) (coordinates of record), along the E canyon wall of Goodyears Creek (W slope of Fir Cap) (3¾ miles NNW of Downieville), on National Forest wilderness land (Roadless Area Review & Evaluation (RARE II) Area West Yuba Rare II Area)(located claim). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. The literature gives sec. 4; however, the USGS quadrangle shows sec. 9, with the adit entrance in the NW¼. Worked until 1910 (?) as a placer mine.

Mineralization is a vein deposit and a gold-bearing Tertiary gravel channel deposit. The quartz vein is capped by lava. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).

Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 10.67 meters and comprised of a 1,500 foot adit, 2 shafts (one 65 feet deep not on the vein; the other 35 feet deep on the vein), plus a 50 foot drift and a 30 foot stope on the vein. The workings contained bad air due to no ventilation. Two mills were carried away by snowslide.
