A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the E½ (estimated) sec. 4, T18N, R10E, MDM, 1.5 km (4,900 feet/¾ mile) SW of Alleghany, along Kanaka Creek, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. One of the older mines in the district but no production records were found.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in gabbro and granite. The ore body strikes N35W and dips 60W. Quartz veins strike N15-50W and dip 45W in the lower workings, and 70W or more in the upper parts. Granite cuts gabbro in the creek near the lower caved tunnel. Local rocks include Mesozoic gabbroic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).
Workings include surface and underground openings. There are at least 2 adits & apparently extensive underground workings, all caved and inaccessible.
