A former placer Au-Pt occurrence/hydraulic mine located in sec. 1, T19N, R8E, MDM, at Brandy City, on National Forest land. Owned/operated by M. Carter (1894). First produced in 1855. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Located in the Tahoe National Forest. Exact location is not known. Location given is for the site labeled Brandy City on the topo map. Alternative location in old MRDS record is given as secs. 21 & 22, T20N, R9E. The presence of PGE is not verified but nearby serpentinized areas and low-sulfide Au-quartz veins make the occurrence reasonable.
Mineralization is a placer Au-PGE deposit (Deposit Model: 119; Placer Au-PGE deposit), hosted in Pliocene stream gravels. The ore body is 60.96 meters thick with a depth-to-top of 18.29 meters and a width of 243.84 meters. Gravels from the old Yuba River drainage is overlain by andesite and underlain by a slate, serpentine and some amphibolite bedrock. Controls for ore emplacement included stream hydraulics. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided and/or undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).
Workings include unspecified surface openings.
Estimated to have produced several million dollars averaging $0.25 per cubic yard Au (period values).
