A former Cr occurrence/mine located in sec. 30, T19N, R9E, MDM, 2.7 km (1.6 miles) S of Indian Hill, in the headwaters area of the W fork Grant Ravine, N of Henness Pass Road, on National Forest land. Owned/operated by R.J. & W.B. Roupe, Camptonville, California (1942- ). First production occurred in 1914 and the last in 1942. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a Cr deposit hosted in Late Cretaceous serpentinite. The ore bodies are lenticular, strike N36W and dip 80SW at a thickness of 1.52 meters, width of 3.05 meters and a length of 4.57 meters. Small lenses of massive ore occur in residual soil in underlying serpentine. The serpentine is highly sheared. Twenty or more ore bodies were found scattered for approximately 700 feet along an irregular zone with the above attitudes. Each ore body averages the above dimensions. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of 22 small open cuts and 3 shallow shafts (1942).
