A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the SE¼ sec. 11, in the SW¼ sec. 12, in the NW¼ sec. 13 & in sec. 14, T20N, R11E, MDM, about 5.3 km NW of Loganville and about 3½ miles NW of Sierra City, in the headwaters area of Hog Canyon, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. The primrose vein has been idle since 1888; the DeLong vein has been worked more recently.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in quartzite, serpentinite and slate. The 2 veins are up to 15 feet thick. The Primrose vein strikes N and dips 80W and is 15 feet or more in places. The footwall is quartzite and serpentine and the hanging wall is slate, associated with a side vein. The DeLong vein strikes N26W and dips E and is up to 14 feet thick and strikes parallel to the slate schistosity and has for a surface hanging wall a dike of chocolate-colored lava containing brecciated quartz. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Workings include unspecified surface openings and underground openings with an overall depth of 30.48 meters. The Primrose shaft is 180 feet deep. There are 2 adits at 1,000 feet and 20 feet. The DeLong shaft is 105 feet deep and partially flooded with 20-25 foot drifts.
