A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the S½ & SE¼SW¼ sec. 4, T19N, R11E, MDM, 2.8 km (1.7 miles) S of China Flat (coordinates of record) and about 8 km ESE of Downieville, on the S side of the North Yuba River, ESE of Quartz Point (6 miles WSW of Sierra City), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Clark lists this mine as the Elcy.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate, porphyry and granite. The Elcey vein is 4 feet thick and the Golden Slipper vein is 10 feet thick. Both veins occur in slate near a contact with porphyritic granite. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 2 adits.
