A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 9, T19N, R11E, MDM, 4.2 km (2.6 miles) NE of Cornish House, along the N side of Carney Creek near its headwater, on the W slope of Granite Mountain (6 miles SW of Sierra City), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate, porphyry and granite. The quartz vein & stringers occurs in partially crushed in porphyritic granite near its contact with slate. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 4 (Klamath Mountains and Northern Sierra Nevada).
Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 57.91 meters and comprised of 2 adits, the upper one of which is 280 feet long and lower of which is 100 feet below with 150 feet to the fissure. There is also a 100 foot drift.
