A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 35, T19N, R10E, MDM, about 1.6 km (1 mile) E of Alleghany, along the N canyon wall of Kanaka Creek, adjacent to the Docile Mine, on private land within a National Forest area. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Adjoining mines are the Gold King and the Docile.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in amphibolite, Late Permian schist, and serpentinite. The ore body strikes N and dips 60W. Two irregular quartz veins occur in shear zones. The schist is highly sheared at small angles to the original schistosity. The vein parallels the shear planes. Occasional quartz seams are discontinuous along the shears. Similar parallel vein crops out on the Seneca claim. Local rocks include undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 60.96 meters and comprised of several adits, winzes amounting to several hundred feet in all.
Production date are found in: McCulloch et al, (1964).
Total production to 1893 was $50,000 to $100,000 (period values).
