A former placer Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 31, T21N, R11E, MDM, MDM, about 7 km ENE of Fir Cap (summit) and about 10 km NNE of Downieville, along the E slope of Craycroft Ridge (W canyon wall of Empire Creek), on National Forest wilderness land (West Yuba Roadless Area Review & Evaluation (RARE II) Area). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. The Nessler Mine is part of the Craycroft-Wideawake property.
Gold-bearing Tertiary gravel channel deposit. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Three samples contained from 0.0006 to 0.0022 ounce Au/cubic yard of gravel.
