A former lode Au-Cu occurrence/mine located in the W½W½ sec. 17, T19N, R11E, MDM, 1.7 km (1.0 mile) NE of Cornish House, W of Jim Crow Creek and ENE of Cornish Flat (4 miles SE of Downieville), on National Forest land. The property is comprised of 2 claims. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. Assessment work occurred in 1916.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate & porphyry. The ore body strikes NNW and dips 40W at a thickness of 9.14 meters. There are 6 parallel veins. The Comet veins have a slate hanging wall and a porphyry footwall. Comet No. 1 vein is 3 feet thick and the No. 2 is 10 feet thick. The Alhambra vein is 6 to 8 feet thick and strikes N10W and dips 80W. The country rock is decomposed and altered. The Alhambra has a porphyry footwall and a slate hanging wall. A 30 foot lode occurs on the Comet vein and was said to vary between $1.00 and $9.00 (period values) Au/ton for 14 feet of thickness. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).

Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 26.52 meters, an overall length of 91.44 meters, and an overall width of 1,828.8 meters. There are 4 adits with the Comet adit at 350 feet, with numerous crosscuts. The Alhambra adit is 380 feet.

Production data are found in: Preston, E.B. (1893).
