A Mn occurrence located in sec. 13, T6S, R4E, MDM, 1.7 km (1.1 miles) W of Red Mountain (coordinates of record), along an unnamed, W-flowing tributary of Sweetwater Creek, on private leased land. Discovered in 1917. Owned by H. H. Ballentine (1974). Operated by John Plattner (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
The ore body dips NE at a thickness of 1.83 meters. Beds of massive, siliceous oxide ore vary in thickness and are thought to be parts of a single bed, dipping generally NE, but in detail warped and broken by minor faults. The thickness varies from 3 to 6 feet. At one place a lens of chert 1.5 feet thick divides the ore body into 2 parts. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 3 (Coast Ranges and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or rocks of the Franciscan melange.
