A Mn occurrence/prospect located in the NE¼ sec. 27, T5S, R4E, MDM, 3.6 km (2.3 miles) E of Eylar Mountain (coordinates of record), along the N canyon wall of Turner Gulch, just E of Arroyo Mocho, in the NE corner of the county. Discovered in 1917. Owned by Davenport and Smith, California (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is .
Mineralization is a Mn deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 98; USGS model code: 24c.1; Deposit model name: Volcanogenic Mn, Franciscan), hosted in Franciscan shale. The ore body strikes N50W and dips 25 to 75 SW at a thickness of 1.83 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included sedimentary bedding. A massive bed of siliceous Mn oxide is broken by minor shearing so relations to country rock are unclear. Where undisturbed, it lies parallel to the bedding of the enclosing cherts and shales. The body averages 2½ feet thick to a maximum of 6 feet. Several thin ore beds are in the shale. Local alteration includes oxidation. Local rocks include rocks of the Franciscan melange.
Regional geologic structures include an ophiolitic melange.
Workings include unspecified surface and underground openings.
Analytical data results: 20 to 25% silica.
