A former Hg occurrence/mine located in the N½SW¼NW¼ sec. 3, T9S, R1E, MDM, 2.9 km (1.8 miles) W of New Almaden, on county park land (Almaden Quicksilver County Park). Discovered prior to 1863. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Operated during the periods 1863 to 1866, 1885 to 1888, 1943 and 1947.
Mineralization is hosted in Late Cretaceous serpentinite. The ore body is irregular, strikes E and dips 50N. Controls for ore emplacement included local fractures. Local alteration includes the silica carbonate alteration of serpentine. Local rocks include rocks of the Franciscan melange.
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 1,609.3 meters.
