A graphite prospect located in sec. 3, T14S, R5E, SBM, 10.9 miles SE of Julian (reported by Tucker in sec. 34 T13S, R5E, but F.H. Weber could not locate it there in 1958, since it is actually in sec. 3 as already reported by Hilton in 1939) at N32.98374, W116.46329, at an elevation of 2,200 feet.

Mineralization is a graphite deposit in granite, gneiss and pegmatite, consisting of graphite-rich zones in fine-grained schist. The schist carries about 16% graphite, most in the form of crystalline flakes, but some also in the form of nodules in the size of peas.

A number of outcrops of graphite-bearing schist are located on the E and SE slopes of the 2 ridges running E and SE from the peak of 3,395 feet.

These graphite occurrences are exploited by the Seyer, Mary Jane and Unnamed Graphite prospects.

In the 1920’s the mining rights were owned by W.B. Seyer of Julian and an unknown, but certainly small, amount of graphite was mined. Deduced from the remains visible in 1999 the workings comprised probably one adit and several open cuts.
