A zinc mine in fractured Everton Dolomite & St. Joseph Limestone. Started 1866 and closed 1900. Restarted during WWI.
Structure: Boone Chert-Topped Plateau

Alteration: Most Of Galena Found In Clay Was Altered On Exterior To A Gray Coating Of Pyromorphite, A Lead Po. Formation Residuvm.

Deposit: Tallow clay was exposed in cuts. Clay is pink, red, yello W specked with white, and striped, and occurs As seams or bands 2-3 inches thick and 12-15 feet in length, separated from each other by gritty bands. An analysis showed that oxides of zinc, aluminum, and silica formed the primary constituents, having about 11.31% metallic zinc. The horizon (5) in which galena and smithsonite are found may be present throughout the calciferous series beds, and occasionally be found in the st. Joe marble. ; info.src : 1 pub lit

Development: Production data for these fairly well developed sites is not yet found.

Geology: Openings are near the dividing line between the ordovician rocks exposed over the valleys to the north and the lower carboniferous beds that crown the hills on all the other sides. St joe marble & boone fm.
