A former W-Ag-Cu-Au-Pb occurrence/mine located in secs. 18 & 19, T15N, R14E, SBM, about 4.5 km NNW of Kessler Peak, along the western margin of a western spur of the Ivanpah Range (6 miles SE of Mountain Pass; 10 miles N of Cima), on federal reservation land (Mojave National Preserve/East Mojave National Scenic Area). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.

Mineralization is related to a fault and is hosted in limestone and quartz monzonite. The ore body is generally irregular shoots at a width of 12.19 meters. Copper ore occurs along a vertical, NW-trending fault and along fracture and bedding planes in limestone. Local geologic structures include a fault. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges) and/or Carboniferous marine rocks, unit 2 (SE California Carbonate Assemblage).

Workings include surface and underground openings. Prior to 1908 all work was underground. A shaft was sunk several hundred feet deep with some lateral workings. More recent developments consist of a series of open cuts, trends and relatively shallow shafts and adits along the fault zone.

Production data are found in: Wright, L.A., et al (1953).

In 1902 the Excelsior workings yielded a significant tonnage of Cu ore. During the period 1902 to 1908, operations yielded Cu-Au-Ag ore valued at about $75,000 (period values). During the period 1940 to 1941, a small tonnage of W ore was mined. No other information is available.
