A former Au-Mn occurrence/mine located in the NE¼NW¼NE¼ sec. 24, T12N, R1E, SBM, 2.3 km (1.4 miles) SSW of Paradise Springs, on U.S. Bureau of Land Management administered land (6.3 miles ENE of the summit of Lane Mountain). The property is comprised of 7 claims. First produced in 1913. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
NOTE: USGS MRDS database file note: "The Olympus Mine is mis-located on the Paradise Range 7.5 minute quadrangle topo map. GPS data for latitude/longitude places the mine on the Coyote Lake 7.5 minute quadrangle at the location listed for this record. Wright, L.A., et al (1953), p. 76, erroneously lists the Olympus Mine in sec. 18, T12N, R1E. See also unnamed prospect (0060711576)."
Mineralization is hosted in granodiorite. The ore body is lenticular in form, strikes N30W and dips 33E at a thickness of 6.1 meters. Parallel, 1 to 20 foot thick, vuggy veins occur and probably do not exceed 500 feet in length. The vein is cut off by a N45E-trending fault 365 feet from the portal of the lower tunnel. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 121.92 meters and comprised of an incline with levels, a 400 foot adit, and above that adit, another 300 foot adit. A series of raises connect the two. Also cuts and trenches were opened.
Production data are found in: Southern Pacific Company (1964b).
Operated during the period 1915-1925 and 1935-1941. 50,000 tons of $6 (period values) ore was reportedly mined. No official production record was found.
