A former Ag-Cu-Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 22, T3N, R26E, SBM, 4.5 km (2.9 miles) WSW of Black Meadow Landing, on Bureau of Land Management administered land (located claim). Owned & operated by J.P. and Ruth Hinds (100%), Parker, Arizona 85344 (1980). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. The Blue Heaven group includes the old "Black Metal Mine."
This property was examined in conjunction with the mineral appraisal of the Whipple Mountains Wilderness Study Area (Bureau of Land Management) in 1980. Backup information can be found in the WFOC mineral property files.
The ore body is tabular in a shear zone. The primary mode of origin was hydrothermal activity. Primary ore control was fracturing and the secondary control was faulting. Wallrock alteration is slight (propylitic). Local rocks include Precambrian igneous and metamorphic rock complex.
Workings include unspecified underground openings (the topo map reflects 1 shaft symbol just W of this point).
U.S. Bureau of Mines statistical files list production for the Black Metal Mine in 1941 & 1942. Shumway (1981) reports large production from 1880 to 1890.
