A former Fe-Mn-Al-P-S-silica occurrence/mine located in the SE¼ sec. 29, T19N, R3E, SBM, 4.7 km (2.9 miles) NW of Owl Hole Springs, in the SW part of the Owlshead Mountains (located claim when land was Bureau of Land Management administered), on National Park Service land (Death Valley National Park). Discovered in 1916. First produced in 1942. Formerly owned by the estate of Harold W. Orwig. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. This property was part of the Black Magic Manganese Mine. No other information is available.
Mineralization is hosted in granite and limestone. An ore body is 18 meters thick, 4 meters wide and 366 meters long. Another (?) ore body strikes N70W and dips 90S at a thickness of 30 meters, a depth-to-top of 3 meter5s, a width of 6 meters and a length of 65 meters. Ore body No. 1 is a fissure vein and irregular. Ore body No. 2 is a shear zone and ore body No. 3 is a breccia fill. The primary mode of origin was contact metasomatism. The secondary mode of origin was hydrothermal activity. The primary ore control was igneous activity. The secondary control was faulting. Wallrock alteration is slight (bleaching, intermediate argillic and sericitic). Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic granitic and metamorphic rocks undivided.
Workings include surface openings comprised of 180 feet of open cuts.
Analytical data results: Samples reportedly indicate 50% Fe.
