A former Au occurrence/mine located in the W½SE¼NE¼ sec. 18, T4S, R22E, SBM, 2.2 km (1.4 miles) N of Black Hill (coordinates of record) (4 miles E of Cox siding), along the western martin of the Big Maria Mountains. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in pegmatite. The ore body strikes E-W and dips 80N at a width of 0.91 meter. A quartz vein occurs at the contact of granite pegmatite and schist. The footwall is schist and the hanging wall is granite cut by pegmatites. Associated rocks include schist and granite. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided and/or Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 1 (Mojave Desert and Death Valley area).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 2 tunnels. The lower tunnel was driven E on the vein for 60 feet. The upper tunnel was driven 20 feet E.
The ore was reported at $15 (period values) Au/ton.
