A former asbestos deposit/mine located in sec. 29, T6S, R5E, SBM, 3.5 km (2.2 miles) NW of Pinyon Pines, E of Palm Canyon, on National Forest land. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. Product was used for auto battery boxes.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in peridotite. The ore body is comprised of veins at 0.61 meter wide and occurs in a belt of cortlandite, a granular olivine-hornblende, that strikes N30E and is 200 feet wide and 1,500 feet long. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 2 (Peninsular Ranges).
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 45.72 meters, overall depth of 15.24 meters and an overall width of 30.48 meters and comprised of an open cut with crosscut tunnels driven at the floor.
Production was some 800 tons of ore.
