A talc/soapstone occurrence/mine located in the NW¼ sec. 18, T5S, R18E, SBM, o9n the SW edge of the Palen Mountains (18 miles NE of Desert Center), on the SW slope (W slope at S end) of the Palen Mountains. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in schist. The ore body strikes E-W and dips 40S at a length of 914.4 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included a contact zone between lime-silicate rocks and schist. Local rocks include Cretaceous marine rocks (in part nonmarine)(?), unit 1 (Blythe).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of an open cut 30 feet long and a crosscut tunnel driven S30W for 30 feet.
Analytical data: SiO2 - 60.7%; Fe2O3 and Al2O3 - 1.95%; CaO - trace; MgO - 30.88%; H2O - 4.50%.
