A Mn-Au-Cu occurrence/mine located in the NW¼SW¼SW¼ sec. 31, T1N, R24E, SBM, about 2.8 km N of Riverside Mountain (summit) (E. slope of the Riverside Mountains, 7 miles S of Vidal), on Bureau of Land Management administered land (located claim). Discovered in 1939. Owned by the Mountaineer Mining Company, California and by John Lilliard, California (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.

Mineralization is hosted in limestone and schist. The ore body strikes N20W and dips 75E. Diabase dikes cut limestone and schist. The deposit involves a fissure in gray to buff, massive limestone. The fissure strikes N20W and dips 75E. The limestone is interbedded with quartzite. Mn & Fe oxides occur along the fissures. Some irregular pockets of ore are 2 to 3 feet thick. Parallel fissures occur on the contact of limestone and schist. The ore is stained with Fe, Mn oxides and Cu-stained quartz. Associated rocks include diabase. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 1 (Mojave Desert and Death Valley area) and/or Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.

Workings include underground openings comprised of a 200 foot tunnel and 200 foot inclined shaft sunk at 60 degrees with drifts on the ore body at the 100 and 200 foot levels.

Production data are found in: Tucker, W. Burling & Reid J. Sampson (1945).

Comments on the production information: 1912-1916: 300 tons of ore valued at $15,750.00 (period values); 1920-1935: 1,540 tons of ore valued at $14,140.00 (period values).

Analytical data results: Ore grade 8.19% Mn, 31.64% Fe & 2.36% silica.
