A former Cr-Fe mine located in sec. 36, T27N, R8E, MDM, 3.9 km (2.4 miles) NE of Rattlesnake Hill, on private land. Workings lie near an intersection of Fox Road and a spur of the Rush Hill mororway. Operated by Mr. Samuel Altshuler (World War 1); owned by Mr. george C. Naseath Greenville, California (1975 ). Operated 1916-1919. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10,000 meters.
Mineralization is a Cr deposit hosted in rocks of the Arlington & Knoxville units (serpentinite). The deposit occurs in a narrow, sill-like body of ultramafic rock that trends to the NW and is in contact with the above two formations. The ore body is pod-like and strikes N60W, dipping 50S with a depth-to-top of 0 meters, a width of 3 meters and a length of 150 meters. The primary mode of origin was magmatic differentiation. Primary ore control was lithology with fracturing as a secondary method. Wall rock alteration was intense (carbonitization and silicification). Associated rocks include diorite. Local rocks include Ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Local structures include intense shearing of the host rock, which trends N35-50W and dips 50-70SW.
Workings consisted of several shallow pits and trenches.
Production data are found in: Rynearson (1953).
Past production is uncertain - approximately 250-350 tons of ore at 30-34% Cr0. Much of the production appears to have been from float. Insufficient data for matrix calculations. Analysis by CDMG in 1976 gave the following percentages - massive 2: 03.26%, Cr2O3: 38.37%, FeO: 09.68%, total Fe: 12.07%; Al203: 25.98%, MgO Cr/Fe: 2.80%.
